We have had an incredibly wet Spring (probably the wettest I have ever seen).  Until recently the ground has been saturated, to the point where we have several inches of mud and pooling water in the back corner of our yard which happens to be the lowest point on our property.  A very pleasant young couple just purchased the house next to ours.  They have started several landscaping projects, one of which was to remove a good number of trees on the hill of their back yard.  It appears that removing these trees has either caused or significantly contributed to the pooling water issue in our yards, as there is no longer any type of foliage to prevent runoff from the easement behind our property.  I’m not sure if they plan to replace the trees with any type of plant or grass, but I do know they are planning to build a fence.  Assuming they do no nothing to replace the foliage they removed, what type of plants could we use in this area?  Depending on what kind of fence they build, I’m thinking we will want to plant something big that will hide the fence and help soak up the excess water.  What type of plants would meet these requirements?
