Welcome to the Hemingway Designs Home Landscape Blog. I’m Ian Hemingway and I’ll be your host. Here we can talk about your home landscape, the plants and animals in it, design thoughts, and how your home landscape relates to the world around us.
Our home landscapes have a significant effect on the quality of our daily lives. They can enhance life by providing a haven from the stresses of a hectic day, a safe, healthy environment for children to play, a place to entertain friends, and habitat for wildlife. They may also detract from our lives when thoughtlessly designed, poorly constructed, or improperly maintained.

For many of us, our home landscape is the place where we most often come in contact with, and experience, nature. Here, we get a taste of the tremendous variety of living things that inhabit our world, and the relationships between them. How we choose to create and maintain our home landscape will have influences well beyond our property bounds. What we do collectively, the many millions of us, will change the world.
Over time, I would like to talk with you about the various aspects of this subject. A few of the wide range of possibilities are: informative topics ranging from how to plant, build a patio, or repair a walk; design ideas like how to select and place plant material, or lay out the shape of a lawn; tips on maintenance like how to feed a lawn, prune shrubs, or control pests; to discussions on habitat creation and preservation, watershed protection, or controlling invasive, and saving endangered, species. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, questions, and ideas. This will be fun, and together we’ll learn a lot.
